Invitation

It is with immense pleasure that we welcome you to the 5th Asian PGPR International Conference to be held in Bogor, Indonesia from July 16-19, 2017. This conference is organized by Research Center for BIOLOGY - Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Indonesia under the chairmanship of Dr.rer.nat Antonius in partnership with Asian PGPR Society for Sustainable Agriculture.

The Asian PGPR Society of Sustainable Agriculture is a scientific society that was formed in 2009 as a non-profit organization and registered in USA to enable scientists, researchers, academicians, government groups, students, farmers, and industry personnel etc. from various agricultural disciplines to meet every two years in different Asian Countries and discuss their common interests in teaching, research and commercialization of PGPR’s. Asian PGPR Society has more than 900 registered life members from around the globe and is growing every day.

PGPR’s Biofertilizers & Biofungicides are Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria defined as root-colonizing bacteria that exert beneficial traits on plant-growth and development. Root colonization comprises the ability of PGPR to establish on or in the root or rhizosphere to multiply, survive and colonize along the growing root in the presence of the indigenous microflora. PGPR are considered as effective plant growth in various crops. In addition to plant growth promotion, PGPR are also used for controlling several plant pathogens, enhancement of nutrient up-take and in rhizomediation. PGPR colonize plant roots and exert beneficial effects on plant growth and development by a wide variety of mechanisms. To be an effective PGPR, bacteria must be able to colonize roots because bacteria need to establish itself in the rhizosphere at population densities sufficient to produce the beneficial effects.

In the context of increasing international concern for food and environmental quality, the use of PGPR for reducing chemical inputs in agriculture is a potentially important issue. PGPR have gained world-wide importance and acceptance for sustainable agricultural benefits. PGPR’s are the potential tools for future of sustainable agriculture. The application and commercialization of PGPR for sustainable agriculture is a growing and demanding market world-wide.

Over the years, we have organized four International Conferences. The 1st Asian PGPR Congress was held in Hyderabad, India in 2009 and it was a great success. There were 450 registrants and 15 corporate sponsors. The 2nd Conference was held in Beijing, China in 2011 with over 350 delegates from corporate, government and leaders in the PGPR throughout the globe. The 3rd Conference took place in Manila, Philippines in 2013 and it has generated tremendous global collaborations among leaders of PGPR.The 4th Conference held in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2015 received unexpected response from all over the globe.

We anticipate the forth coming 5th Asian PGPR Conference to be held in Bogor, Indonesia from July 16-19, 2017 to draw more than 500 delegates with the continuous sponsorship and encouragement of corporations and people to continually promote the developments of PGPR technology. As PGPR technology is currently experiencing a dramatic increase, it has become a key element of the interactions between PGPR and crops and is considered a key input for sustainable agriculture. This focused event pays tribute to the growing significance of biofertilizers and biofungicides, hence we cordially welcome you to join us and witness the advances in agriculture biotechnology together in the 5th Asian PGPR Conference.

Our organizer, The Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) was initiated in the early 16th century, with the study of Rumphius on the Indonesian flora. In 1817, Reinwardt established Land’s Plantentuin, a botanical garden in Bogor, South of Jakarta.

LIPI reports directly to the President of the Republic of Indonesia. Its main tasks are to assist the President in organizing research and development, to provide guidance and services in science and technology, and advise the government on national science and technology policy.

Bogor, Indonesia, is a city south of Jakarta on Java Island set against the volcanic backdrop of Mount Salak. Bogor is a famous, historical and enjoyable city with the unique natural beauties and we hope that the 5th Asian PGPR Conference will serve to meet a variety of ideas to be discussed. We hope that the conference will enable you to share your research with an international research community and to engage in discussion about the current issues in the field of PGPR. Our organizing committee aims to keep the level of the presentations as high as possible so that it is a positive intellectual experience for all the participants. Therefore, we want you to remember 5th Asian PGPR Conference as a place where you discuss the issues and questions that count for your research, renewed relations with your colleagues and made contacts that help you to develop new directions in your work. Also, 5th Asian PGPR Conference would lay a platform for the interaction between experts around the world and aims in accelerating scientific discoveries.

In this Conference, we bring together the researchers, industry and policy makers under guidance of a core team of technical experts from Asian countries to deliberate and understand the strengths and weaknesses of the region in developing products of PGPR for use by farming community. The outputs would form a strong foundation for addressing the issues of global and regional food security. Accordingly, this maiden venture hosted by us to deliberate on various issues pertaining to research, development and policy related issues on PGPR for the benefit of farming community. The conference will comprise plenary lectures, invited lectures and contributed presentations (Posters).

We look forward to meeting you in Bogor, where the continents and cultures meet in July 2017. Please do not hesitate to contact or email us if we can be of further assistance. We appreciate your time and look forward to hear from you.
